Dr. Andy Mtambo joined Sullivan Medical Clinic in July 2016. Originally from Zambia, Dr. Mtambo brings more than 20 years of medical experience as a Family Physician to the team. He has practiced medicine in Zambia and most recently in Saskatchewan.
Before moving to Saskatchewan, Dr. Mtambo worked as the Clinical Trials Coordinator at BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDs where he published and presented numerous articles in a number of leading medical journals. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Biology, a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Zambia as well as a Master of Public Health from Simon Fraser University.
With a passion for clinical research in improving patient care, Dr. Mtambo firmly believes in providing evidence-based patient centred care. He is an active listener and encourages patients to participate in managing their health. He enjoys doing minor surgical procedures like removing small lumps, removal of foreign bodies, repair of lacerations, wedge resection of ingrown toenails, incisions and drainage of abscesses, and travel medicine.
On a more personal note, he loves to volunteer for both local and international health organizations, playing golf, chess, and attending social events. Besides his membership with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, Dr. Mtambo is a member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan, College of Family Physicians of Canada, Doctors of BC, and the Canadian Medical Protective Association. Dr. Mtambo is fluent in English and a number of Southern African Languages.
